Hi all

I have wonky feet- the deformity I'm going to describe I wonder if you have/ know anything about.

Both feet want to go over onto their sides on the outside edges.
My big toes want to live under the two next toes
The next toes to the big ones are wanting to claw over and grip at the floor
The arch inside the foot seems like a squashed cave thingy, the outer edges is flat on the floor.

Sometimes the little toes want to do the hitler salute
And fancy doing a bunk up on the middle toes.

The drs have seen ankles of raers going inwards and bending in, but me and me sassy knock knees you'd expect to see that sort or deformity. Sort of an S shape.

Instead Im having a wonky Z!

Hi Jenni

I m sorry I can t help you much with your poor old wonky feet, mind you I have fun and game with mine ! For about the last six months I have had red rashes as if I m developing bunions and eventually they have turned into very nasty ulcers which won t heal and go away. I can t wear shoes/boots as they rub them and it hurts. Nothing has helped to rid me of them and nature has had to take its course together with a pair of sandals from Asda they are so designed that they actually miss the ulcers, I look very groovy as when it is cold and raining I have to add a pair of socks, can you imagine the sight ! ....... dead cool , I don t think.Laugh Oh and also due to poor circulation I lost two toe nails off my left foot the baby one and the one next door, hoping they don t creep up to the bigger ones !

Hope somebody can give you some advice.

Love Julia xx

Julia, thank you so much for bothering to reply! Your feet sound really painful, I'm worried about the ulcer thing because of the rubbing toes.
Richard works in ulcer clinic sometimes and there are lots of treatments and dressings they use to speed healing.

The diabetic team keep an eye on my feet. I have never understood why the rheumies pay attention to hands and much less to feet.
I've got a referral to podiatry I think - will chase it having read your post Julia, its Important

Hi Jenni

I agree they do tend to ignore our feet, even in the DAS scoring, considering without them we wouldn t stand up I think they are pretty important really RollEyes

When I saw the nurse at my check-up at the beginning of May they did look pretty grim and has referred my to podiatry but of course still still waiting for an appointment. Ulcers are very nasty things and with no real immune system are not good news for us, yes best to chase up your referral for your poor tootsies.

Hope you are having a dry day, the rain has held off in my part of kent, no wet feet walking the pugs this morning !

Hi Jenni

And I thought I had wonky feet!!! Scared Actually, mine aren't too bad these days having scrapped the insoles which simply moved the pressure from the sore bits and simply plonked it elswhere causing problems in other places! As you know I have had quite a lot of foot surgery in the past and the removal of dropped metatarsal heads made a huge difference to foot comfort and mobility.

I am surprised really that orthopaedics didn't do a full assessment of your feet, ankles, hips, back etc before they set off down the knee replacement route. After all it's wonderful having a brand spangly new knee but not much use when you have problems with your feet! It certainly sounds as though you could do with an orthopaedic assessment.

Julia, your foot ulcers sound a little worrying. Hope you are making a nuisance of yourself and trying to get a rapid appointment. Things like this can quickly turn nasty without appropriate treatment. Hope you see an improvement very soon. The sandals and socks sound wacky ... I would stick with it, it could become iconic RollEyes

PS Don't forget girls we only get one pair of feet, treat them kindly Smile

I sympathise with your wonky/sore feet ladies! Mine are not pretty - bunions and flat feet mostly, with an occasional ingrowing toenail. Recently one of those had got quite bad and was causing a lot of infection and I saw a really good chiropodist, who cleaned it all up and made a beautiful dressing for my stubby little toe! It finally healed after about a week, but she told me to be more careful about it in future because it can cause complications. Also while I had the dressing on I had to wear sandles and I used Fit-Flops, which are like normal flip flops, but have a much more robust sole that is designed to strengthen the foot - I found them very comfy with my bunions as well as I can rarely find sandles that fit my ultra-wide feet.

Hi Lyn ( forgive me Jenni for hijacking your post with my ulcers Smile )

Thanks for your thoughts, one of the ulcers really did look a bit dodgy and extremely painful but since completely leaving it alone for the past month or so it appears to have sort of dried out, the nurse at the surgery gave me a silver dressing which appeared to aggravate it and tried ( forgotten the name ) an ointment given to me by the Boots pharmacist which was honey based but all to no avail. I ll chase up the podiatry clinic on Monday, for what its worth at my hospital.
